Angelo
As a writer, Angelo identifies primarily as an essayist and a memoirist who writes in the genre of creative nonfiction. He was born in the Philippines and has lived over the course of his life in various parts of the world, including the Middle East, the United States, and different parts of Canada. In his writing, Angelo is often interested in exploring his experience of displacement as a migrant, and the liminal spaces in which identity resides. He now lives near Toronto, where he is currently working on a collection of essays.
About his work
Angelo’s writing has been published in Ricepaper Magazine, filling Station Magazine (in a special BIPOC issue guest-edited by Canisia Lubrin), Magdaragat: An Anthology of Filipino-Canadian Writing, and is forthcoming in the anthology entitled Back Where I Came From: On Culture, Identity, And Home, to be published by Book*hug Press in November 2024.

Favourite Filipino word: Basaan, because aside from having a cool glottal stop like so many Filipino words, it's the name of the water festival my family and I participated in San Juan while growing up.
